The Certificate in Mediator Training, offered in conjunction with the Mediator Academy, will provide participants with an appreciation of the theoretical foundations and practical strategies and skills of mediation in a variety of contexts.
Beginning on Friday 30 October, this brand-new course is designed to equip participants with the skills to act as a mediator and also to consider fully how the practice of mediation will be affected by the new statutory framework. It examines the Mediation Act 2017, which entered into force in 2018, and its objective to promote mediation as a viable, effective, and efficient alternative to court proceedings, thereby reducing legal costs, speeding up the resolution of disputes, and relieving the stress involved in court proceedings. The course includes personalised online learning in the form of interactive modules that can be undertaken by participants at a time suitable to them and live interactive workshops.
Key themes covered by the course include:
• Conflict and dispute resolution,
• The role of the mediator,
• Mediation skills and strategies,
• Negotiation in mediation,
• Lawyers and mediation, and
• Mediation law in Ireland.
Dual qualification and CIArb
Those who successfully complete the course will be awarded a Certificate in Mediator Training from the Law Society of Ireland and a Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Foundation Level Certificate in Commercial Mediation, which entitles participants to join CIArb at associate level. Participants can progress to our Diploma in Mediator Training which results in accreditation from the Meditator Institute of Ireland (MII).
